Berlin flight FAQs
A flight from London Heathrow to Berlin takes approximately one hour and 55 minutes. Flying from London City Airport takes around one hour and 40 minutes.
Alongside summer and the festive season, early October is also a very popular time to visit Berlin. That’s when the city celebrates the anniversary of German reunification, and Oktoberfest events take place in breweries and beer halls. So, if you’re travelling on a budget, you might want to avoid these periods. Use our low fare finder to find the cheapest time to visit.
Berlin is often considered one of Europe’s more affordable cities. Plenty of budget hostels cater for the many backpackers who come here, while kiosks selling street food like currywurst and schnitzels can be found all across the city.
Berlin’s public transport system is a very effective way to see the city. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the centre from the airport, depending on how you travel. The underground system – known locally as the U-Bahn – or overground trains, plus taxis, buses, trams and even boats are all on hand to get you around during your stay.
You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to get out of Berlin and see more of what the surrounding area has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.
Berlin is a perfect mix of the past and present. The Brandenburg Gate and remnants of the Berlin Wall are just two of the iconic landmarks in a city heaving with historical monuments and museums.
Then there’s the legendary nightlife. The city is home to more than 4,000 bars and clubs, many of them located in the central Mitte neighbourhood and East Berlin’s trendy Prenzlauer Berg district.
To see both sides of this thrilling city at once, head to the Panoramapunkt viewing platform on the 25th floor of the Kollhoff Tower. You’ll be able to ride Europe’s fastest lift, whizzing visitors 100 metres up above Potsdamer Platz in just 20 seconds.
