Household accounts

Travel with other people made easy. While you earn tier points and your tier in The British Airways Club as an individual, we recognise that our members often travel with family and friends. We aim to make travelling with others as straightforward and rewarding as possible.

Share with a household account

If you’d like to make travelling together a more rewarding experience, then perhaps a household account is for you.

It’s free to create, and means you can pool your Avios with up to six people who live with you, letting you make full use of the collective balance. Even children can join, so everyone in the family can collect Avios each time you travel.

We recommend that all parents/guardians become third-party nominees for any members who are under 18 joining a household account.

Visit Manage My Account on our website for more information on third party nominees.

Getting started with a household account

To set up a household account, you'll first need to decide who will be the head of the household. This person must already be a member of The British Airways Club and will need to complete the application.

As head of the household account, they'll receive all communications about the account and will be the only person who can add or remove members, or change the home address.

It doesn't matter if the rest of the household are existing members or not: they can sign up as part of the household account application process. The head of the household will then be able to change household account members at any time.

Collecting Avios and earning tier points

Everyone in a household account will continue to earn tier points and move through the tiers of the Club individually, but they can also spend Avios taken from the pooled household account.

When any Avios are spent, we'll deduct a proportional amount from each member’s balance in the household account.

Just like with an individual account, your household account Avios stay with you as long as you collect, spend, purchase or share some Avios at least once every 36 months.

Things to remember

  • members of a household account cannot redeem their Avios for anyone outside of the household account
  • Changes to the registered household account address can only be made once every six months
  • Club members must be 18 years or older before they can spend their Avios
  • Some Terms and Conditions apply

Household account FAQs

You can create a household account by viewing the ‘Household account’ section after you've logged into your British Airways Club account.

You can change household account members as often as you like – however each person who is added to your household account must remain on there for a minimum of six months.

Adult household account members must submit their claims individually. However, for members who are under 16 years old and unable to manage their account online themselves, the head of the household account can claim for missing Avios and tier points on their behalf.

The person named as the head of household is responsible for all administration and changes to a household account.

If you're the head of household, our dedicated household account section online will direct you on how to make changes to your account, including updating your home address.

If only one person in the account has moved, then unfortunately they'll need to leave the account. The head of household will need to log in to the account online and remove this member from the account. Then, when this person is no longer a part of the household account, they can log in to their individual account online and make any changes of their own.

The member who is the head of the household account needs to log into their account and remove each member of the household account one at a time. The closure will change the status of all household account members’ accounts.

Members over the age of 18 will retain their individual membership of The British Airways Club and won’t need to have taken a qualifying flight. They'll also keep all Avios they collected and tier points they earned as an individual while in the household account.

Any of the household members who are under 18 years of age unfortunately can't remain an individual member of The British Airways Club, so their membership will be terminated at that point and all their Avios and tier points will be lost.

If you need any more information, you can contact us via Whatsapp. You can also log in to see your British Airways Club membership number.

Family and friends

Once you have a household account, you can create a list of family and friends, so you can spend your household Avios on more people who are important to you, and who don't live at the same address as you.

Travel companions

When you make bookings on ba.com for other people, their details are automatically saved into a travel companions list. That means you can make bookings for them more quickly in the future.

Family and friends, and travel companions FAQs

The family and friends list allows members of The British Airways Club who are part of a household account to redeem for up to five nominated individuals who don't live at the same address.

Household accounts allow up to seven individuals who live at the same address to ‘pool’ their Avios together into one cumulative household Avios balance which can then be redeemed by all household account members.

The family and friends list provides added flexibility which allows household account members to redeem for up to five nominated individuals who don't live at the same address.

Avios balances are not ‘pooled’ with individuals who are on the family and friends list.

The travel companions list allows you to easily save the details of people who you regularly travel with in order to make the booking process quicker and easier when you're purchasing flights using cash online at ba.com. You can't redeem Avios for travel companions.

The family and friends list enables you as a household account member to nominate up to five people who you'd like to redeem Avios for, who don't live at the same address as you.

My travel companions lists:

  • Applies to cash bookings only.
  • Save the details of people who you regularly travel with so you don't have to repeatedly enter their details when you're making cash bookings.

My household account lists:

  • Applies to all booking types.
  • Pool Avios with people who you live with, including children.
  • Redeem from the cumulative household account Avios balance.
  • Household account members' details are saved to make the cash booking process easier (you don’t have to repeatedly enter details of household account members when making a cash booking).

My family and friends lists:

  • Applies to Reward Flights only
  • Allows household account members to redeem for up to five individuals that they don't live with.

Yes but you must add their details onto both lists as this doesn’t happen automatically.

You can view and make changes to your family and friends list, household account and travel companion list after you've logged into your British Airways Club account.

The family and friends list enables household account members to redeem for up to five individuals who don't live at the same address.

So only household account members can benefit from a family and friends list.

If you're not in a household account then you can already redeem your Avios for any other individual provided there's availability.

So only household account members can benefit from a family and friends list.

You can access your family and friends list after you've logged into your British Airways Club account.

From here you can easily add people to your list or remove existing members – simply follow the on-screen instructions.

You can make changes to your family and friends list at any time, however anyone that you add to your list must remain on your list for a minimum of six months.

When adding someone to your family and friends list you must provide their full name, date of birth and email address.

You're also asked to provide their British Airways Club membership number, however this is optional, so not all of your family and friends need to be Club members.
