The British Airways Club

About tier points and eligible flights

As well as collecting Avios, members of The British Airways Club can earn tier points with us and some of our partners.

What are tier points?

Tier points are the points that you earn to move through the tiers of The British Airways Club and unlock more benefits, such as priority check-in and lounge access.

Your Club membership starts at the Blue tier, and if you earn enough tier points in each collection year between 1 April and 31 March, you can progress to Bronze, Silver or Gold:

  • Blue: 0 tier points
  • Bronze: 3,500 tier points
  • Silver: 7,500 tier points
  • Gold: 20,000 tier points

You can also reach some of our tiers by flying a certain number of flights with us between 1 April and 31 March each year. Simply take 25 flights with a British Airways code to become Bronze and 50 to become Silver.

Unlike Avios, tier points can’t be spent on rewards and they expire at the end of each tier point collection year on 31 March. But they’ll be added to your lifetime tier points.

How do I earn tier points?

Earn on flights

You’ll earn tier points on every eligible flight with British Airways and our oneworld® partners.

Tier points on flights

Earn on bags and seats

Whether you need an additional suitcase or want to pre-pay to get the window seat, you’ll top-up your tier points.

Tier points on extras

Earn with Sustainable Aviation Fuels ('SAF')* contributions

You’ll also earn tier points and collect Avios when you contribute towards Sustainable Aviation Fuels. You can even use your Avios balance to buy SAF.

Contribute to SAF

*'Sustainable Aviation Fuels’ (‘SAF’) are defined in the Refuel EU Aviation Regulation as aviation fuels that are either synthetic aviation fuels, aviation biofuels or recycled carbon aviation fuels. For further information, please visit BA Better World.

Tier point milestone rewards

From 1 April 2025, as you earn tier points, you’ll now be able to unlock bonus Avios rewards.

You'll earn your first tier point milestone reward when you reach 5,500 tier points and as you continue earning tier points, you can reach more milestones.

The tier point milestones are:

  • 5,500 tier points = 2,500 bonus Avios
  • 11,000 tier points = 4,000 bonus Avios
  • 16,000 tier points = 5,000 bonus Avios

You can then use your Avios on your next Reward Flight, upgrade, or as part payment on your next flight or holiday.

How to spend your Avios

What happens when I reach the next tier?

As soon as you’ve earned enough tier points, you’ll be awarded your new tier. It can take up to 48 hours to show in your account but we’ll email you to let you know when you’ve moved up a tier and the benefits you’re now entitled to.

It lasts for the rest of your current membership year, which ends on 30 April every year, plus the whole of the next membership year – unless you reach an even higher tier in the meantime.

For example:

  • If you start as a Blue member and earn 3,500 tier points, you’ll instantly become a Bronze member.
  • You’ll continue to earn tier points and if you reach 7,500 within the same collection year, you’ll become a Silver member.
  • Your tier points reset to zero on 30 April but you’ll continue to be a Silver member for another 12 months.

Tier point FAQs

You can see an overview of your tier points in your British Airways Club account.

Once you’ve logged in, you can see how many you have – including any tier points you've earned with our partner airlines. You can also check if your British Airways Club membership number is correctly linked to your bookings.

The way you earn tier points and move between tiers changed on 1 April 2025. Find out about how it changed.

You must add your Club membership number every time you book a flight or holiday with us. The name and date of birth on your British Airways Club account must also match the details on your passport so that we can verify your tier points and award them automatically.

Tier points for British Airways flights are credited to your account up to three days after the flight or eligible add-on has been used. Air partners can take up to seven days to credit.

Tier points earned from a British Airways Holidays package take 14 days, after you’ve completed your trip, to credit.

The amount of Avios and tier points you receive depends on which airline you fly with, the cabin you fly in and the type of ticket you hold.

For British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia, the amount of Avios you collect and tier points you earn depends on the amount you spend rather than the distance you fly. To understand how this works before you book, see our information on collecting Avios on flights and earning tier points on flights.

From 1 April 2025, you’ll only be able to use our flight calculator to find out how many Avios you can collect and tier points you can earn for flights that award Avios based on the distance flown. This includes flights with some of our partner airlines and some flights booked through travel agents.

Eligible flights

Eligible flights are defined as those flights marketed by British Airways.

'Marketed' means the flight will have a BA flight number (in your itinerary or on your ticket). The aircraft you travel on can be either a British Airways aircraft or belong to one of our franchises or air partners.

Flights marketed by other airlines, reward bookings and agency or industry-discounted bookings aren't eligible.
