About tier points and eligible flights

As well as collecting Avios, members of The British Airways Club can earn tier points with us and some of our partners.

Introducing The British Airways Club

We're currently updating your account to the new British Airways Club. As we work through the changes, some services may be unavailable for a short time, but will be back very soon.

What are tier points?

Tier points are the points that you earn to move through the tiers of The British Airways Club and unlock more benefits, such as priority check-in and lounge access.

Your Club membership starts at the Blue tier, and if you earn enough tier points in each collection year between 1 April and 31 March, you can progress to Bronze, Silver or Gold:

  • Blue: 0 tier points
  • Bronze: 3,500 tier points
  • Silver: 7,500 tier points
  • Gold: 20,000 tier points

You can also reach some of our tiers by flying a certain number of flights with us between 1 April and 31 March each year. Simply take 25 flights with a British Airways code to become Bronze and 50 to become Silver.

Unlike Avios, tier points can’t be spent on rewards and they expire at the end of each tier point collection year on 31 March. But they’ll be added to your lifetime tier points.

How do I earn tier points?

Earn on flights

You’ll earn tier points on every eligible flight with British Airways and our oneworld® partners.

Tier points on flights

Earn with British Airways Holidays

You’ll now earn tier points on the total cost of your holiday package – not just the flights.

Tier points on holidays

Earn on bags and seats

Whether you need an additional suitcase or want to pre-pay to get the window seat, you’ll top-up your tier points.

Tier points on extras

Earn with Sustainable Aviation Fuels ('SAF'*) contributions

You’ll also earn tier points and collect Avios when you contribute towards Sustainable Aviation Fuels. You can even use your Avios balance to buy SAF.

*'Sustainable Aviation Fuels’ (‘SAF’) are defined in the Refuel EU Aviation Regulation as aviation fuels that are either synthetic aviation fuels, aviation biofuels or recycled carbon aviation fuels. For further information, please visit BA Better World.

What happens when I reach the next tier?

As soon as you’ve earned enough tier points, you’ll be awarded your new tier. It can take up to 48 hours to show in your account but we’ll email you to let you know when you’ve moved up a tier and the benefits you’re now entitled to.

It lasts for the rest of your current membership year, which ends on 30 April every year, plus the whole of the next membership year – unless you reach an even higher tier in the meantime.

For example:

  • If you start as a Blue member and earn 3,500 tier points, you’ll instantly become a Bronze member.
  • You’ll continue to earn tier points and if you reach 7,500 within the same collection year, you’ll become a Silver member.
  • Your tier points reset to zero on 30 April but you’ll continue to be a Silver member for another 12 months.

Eligible flights

Eligible flights are defined as those flights marketed by British Airways.

'Marketed' means the flight will have a BA flight number (in your itinerary or on your ticket). The aircraft you travel on can be either a British Airways aircraft or belong to one of our franchises or air partners.

Flights marketed by other airlines, reward bookings and agency or industry-discounted bookings aren't eligible.
