Venice flight FAQs
Your flight time to Venice depends on where you’re flying from and which airport you’re landing in. A journey from New York to Venice will take around eleven hours including a connection in London, while Los Angeles to Venice takes just under 15 hours with a connection.
You can fly to Venice from a number of US cities. Flights with British Airways include a connection at either London Heathrow or London Gatwick.
Spring and summer are the most popular times of the year to visit the city, so book your flights in the winter or autumn to save and enjoy exploring the city’s canals and landmarks with fewer crowds and milder weather.
Spring and autumn are excellent seasons to visit Venice. Temperatures are cooler and the streets are quieter. The city swelters in the summer months and can experience flooding in the winter during the phenomenon known as “high water”. If, however, you don’t mind the heat or you’re happy to pack your wellies, you’ll still have a great time exploring the neighbourhoods and canals during these times.
You can make your trip to Venice fit any budget. Explore the canals using the affordable vaporetto system instead of paying for private gondola tours. Discover the city by foot and wander through Venice’s charming streets, alleyways and piazzas. You can also find cheap eats at the local bakeries, pizza-by-the-slice spots or small trattorias.
Once you land in Venice’s Marco Polo Airport, you can take a water taxi straight to your accommodation or hop on a bus to get you closer to the city. Most transport will drop you at Piazzale Roma and you can continue your journey on the water or by walking.
To see more of Italy, book a car hire with British Airways, and receive great benefits – with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support. Collect Avios on every rental.
There’s more to discover in Venice than its iconic canals. Visit the quiet island of San Giorgio Maggiore for stunning lagoon views or explore the vibrant market stalls of Campo Santa Margherita to find fresh local produce.
To get a panoramic view over Venice’s rooftops, climb Scala Contarini del Bovolo’s hidden spiral staircase. Then visit the Chiesa di San Pantaleone Martire to admire the world’s largest ceiling painting, The Martyrdom of Saint Pantalon.
For a caffeine fix, visit Venice’s oldest coffee roastery, Torrefazione Cannaregio before taking a moment away from the city’s busy atmosphere on Sant’Elena island’s beautiful gardens.
