Changes to your tier point collection period

We're constantly improving The British Airways Club for our members, which is why we changed your tier point collection period to make things a little simpler.

Your tier now resets at the same time as everyone else's, meaning you have the same tier point collection year as friends and family who are also members of The British Airways Club.

The tier point collection period now starts on 1 April and ends on 31 March every year. The change started for all Club members on 1 April 2025.

How it worked

General

On 1 April 2025 the tier point collection year for all members of The British Airways Club was aligned to start on 1 April and end on 31 March every year.

We started transitioning to the new tier point collection year from 1 April 2024.

Tier point collection year

The 12-month period which used to start from the 9th day of the calendar month in which a Club member takes their first flight.

This is now the 12-month period which starts from 1 April every year, regardless of when a Club member joins or takes their first flight.

Membership card expiry

The date your benefit period ends; typically, the end of the month following your tier point collection year.

This is now on 30 April every year for all members.

Eligible flights

Eligible flights are defined as those flights marketed or operated by British Airways and those flights marketed and operated by Iberia.

'Marketed' means the flight will have a BA flight number (in your itinerary or on your ticket).

'Operated' means the aircraft that you travel on is a British Airways aircraft (including franchises and BA CityFlyer and Euroflyer).

'Marketed and operated by Iberia' means the flight will have an IB flight number and the aircraft you travel on is an Iberia aircraft (including franchises).

The retrospective tier points that were added into your account during the transition period.

What happened from 1 April 2024?

This change has simplified the journey for Club members by aligning all members to the same tier point collection year, making it easier to manage travel plans for yourself, colleagues and family.

For tier point collection periods that started on or before March 2024

There was no change to how you reached tiers and any tier that you reached within this period was valid for at least 12 months. Any existing status valid beyond 31 March 2025 continued for the full duration.

For tier point collection periods that started from April 2024

We transitioned all members of The British Airways Club to the new tier point collection year, while giving you the opportunity to renew or upgrade your tier during this period:

The tier point collection year was shortened to end on 31 March 2025; and
A tier point adjustment was added to your account during your new tier point collection year.

If you earned enough tier points during your tier point collection year to upgrade or renew your tier, this is valid until 30 April 2026 (new membership card expiry date).

Tier point adjustment example

This example shows how the tier point adjustment worked and how your tier points were counted during the transition period.

This meant the tier you held from April 2025 was based on 12 months of tier points, no matter when your tier point collection year ended.

For a member whose collection year ended on 8 October 2024:

Collection period: 9 October 2024 to 31 March 2025

The tier point collection period was shorter than usual.

Tier point adjustment: 1 April 2024 to 8 October 2024

We added any tier points earned in this period to your account.

How did the tier point adjustment work?

Yes, if you earned enough tier points and met the number of minimum eligible flights to renew or upgrade, your new tier would've been awarded automatically.

Tier points were credited 14 days after the start of your next tier point collection period. You'll find this presented on your statement as a "Tier point adjustment (tier point collection year change)".

Eligible tier point activity that was posted within seven days after your tier point collection period end date was part of the original award.

Any tier points that weren't included as part of the original tier point adjustment credit, were automatically added by a further tier point adjustment approximately one month after the original tier point adjustment.

In your account, you can view your current tier points and your tier progression tracker. This shows how many tier points you've earned in your current tier point collection year.

To view tier points earned in previous tier point collection years, click on ‘My statement’ and filter by date range and transaction type.

No, your tier point adjustment wasn't added to your lifetime tier points. Lifetime tier points are accumulated once for each eligible flight, meaning they were only credited into your lifetime balance once.

We used the full 12-month period from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 to determine which tier you'll hold in the next membership year.

If you didn't meet the required tier points to stay at the same tier, you'll be downgraded from 1 May 2025.

Yes, any British Airways Holidays bonus tier points awarded between 1 April 2024 and the end of your tier point collection period that started on or before March 2024, were included.

Yes, tier points awarded as part of the American Express Premium Plus campaign (ending 20 May 2024) between 1 April 2024 and the end of your tier point collection period that started on or before March 2024, were included.

Avios, vouchers and membership

No, there was no change to how members collect Avios through flying with British Airways or oneworld partners.

No, there weren't any changes to expiry dates for existing vouchers.

All membership expiry dates are now 30 April.

No matter when you joined, your tier point collection year will always start on 1 April and finish on 31 March every year.

This might mean that your first membership year is less than 12 months but you can still reach Bronze, Silver or Gold if you earn enough tier points by 31 March. All the tier points you earn will also count towards your lifetime tier points.

In your account, you can view your current tier points and your tier progression tracker. This shows how many tier points you've earned in your current tier point collection year and how many you need to reach the next tier.
