Mykonos holidays

There are many sides to Mykonos. From afar, it’s a medley of white houses, electric blue sea and golden stretches of sand. Look closer and you’ll see deep pink bougainvillea tumbling from traditional balconies – as well as glittering lights on glamorous dancefloors. Whether you’re here to laze, rave, or ravish plates of grilled octopus on a terrace, make the most of every golden hour by the Aegean Sea. The memories – and the photos – will be stunning.

Laze under the sun and party under the stars

Hop between chic boutiques and sandy beaches. Spend days stretching out on sunbeds and evenings clinking glasses at waterfront restaurants. Dance underneath the stars at a beach party and get lost in the music at a horizon-facing bar. Mykonos’ nightlife (if it can even be called that, considering parties also run throughout the day) is iconic. Even A-list celebrities dock their yachts in the island’s bays for glasses of bubbly.

To see a different side of the Greek island, delve into its main town’s higgledy-piggledy streets. Step into whitewashed churches that look like they’re made from sugar icing. Then explore a nearby island covered in ancient ruins, where mythological gods were born. Suitable for families, friendship groups and couples, and boasting a legendary LGBTQ+ scene, Mykonos has something for everyone. Book your flights to Mykonos today

Mykonos holiday FAQs

  • Mykonos Town, also known as Chora, is filled with whitewashed houses and slender alleyways. The jumbled street layout is as enchanting as it is disorientating, so let yourself get lost in the labyrinth. You’ll soon stumble upon stylish shops and galleries. For a breath of fresh sea air, seek out the snow-white Paraportiani Church overlooking the Aegean. Then spend golden hour admiring balconies hanging over the water in Little Venice. Sit outside and order a drink topped with so much fruit it might as well be a meal. Toast to the five iconic Mykonos windmills watching over the town and settle in for a sparkling evening.
  • Ano Mera is a gentle inland village around three miles from Chora. Time seems to slow here, away from the main town’s boutiques and bars fizzing over with patrons. Light a candle in the 16th Century Monastery of Panagia Tourliani and see its marble fountain babbling in the courtyard. Stroll around cobblestone streets and find a terrace where you can laze cat-like in the sun. Before you leave, pull up a chair in a cafe for Greek coffee with spoonfuls of sugar or duck into a dinky taverna for some ouzo.
  • Delos Island is just a 30-minute boat ride from Chora. This archaeological site was considered the most sacred island in Ancient Greece. It’s the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, perhaps explaining why the surrounding Cyclades are blessed with such dazzling sunsets and lively moonlit parties. You can see ruins of temples, gorgeous mosaics and more than a few marble columns here. Stories say the twin gods were born at Sacred Lake which is now a park watched over by the Terrace of Lions. These famous lions (they admittedly look more like lizards) are recreations. The originals bare their non-existent fangs in the small Delos Archaeological Museum.
  • For many, the name Mykonos is synonymous with ‘beaches’ and ‘parties’ – or more specifically ‘beach parties.’ Revellers usually make Paradise Beach their first stop. This long stretch of bleach-blonde sand is fringed with legendary bars. At the Paradise Club, throngs of clubbers dance under the beating sun or the glowing moon. At Tropicana Mykonos, the DJs spin, the bartenders shake and the raucous crowds raise their hands to the stars. When you’ve done everything there is to do in Paradise, go to Super Paradise. The adjacent cove is awash with DJ booths and clubs like the iconic JackieO’ bar.
  • If you want to swap parties for peace and quiet, head to Kalafati on the east coast of Mykonos where buckets are more likely to be filled with sand than ice and champagne. Expect lines of parasol-shaded sunbeds and crystalline water inviting paddlers and swimmers to step in. This area is also popular with water sports enthusiasts because of the lively meltemi winds. Visit in summer to see wind ruffling the tamarisk trees and surfers gliding across the waves.
  1. Find out why Mykonos is the party island of the Cyclades. The nightlife scene here is a cocktail of sunrise-facing bars and open-air beach clubs. Head to Cavo Paradiso perched at the top of a hill overlooking Paradise Beach – a perfect spot for watching firework displays during Full Moon parties and seeing the sun wake up after a long night of dancing. If you’re planning an ultra-glamorous night out, make a reservation at celeb haunt Nammos on Psarou Beach. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Moss have been spotted living it up at this late-night spot overlooking a yacht-filled bay.
  2. Soak up the sun on a beach. When in Greece, you’ll want to take in the white buildings, white sand and white sea foam bubbling on the shore. Mykonos’ beaches range from party hubs to blissful coves, so you can spend long days – and long nights – lapping up sea views. Elia is the longest beach on the island with plenty of sunbeds and waterfront restaurants. It’s loved by locals and tourists alike, and is a favourite among LGBTQ+ holidaymakers. If you’re looking for a small, secluded beach you should seek out Kapari. In-the-know locals visit this charming cove at sunset to see nearby Delos Island bathed in Apollo’s rays.
  3. Take to the sea. In the summer, water taxis zip back and forth between the most popular beaches along the south coast. Mykonos boat tours also give you the chance to glide across the waves and see top Mykonos attractions. Book a tour that ventures out to other islands to see more of the Cyclades. If you can, stay out on the water until sunset – so you can see the sky blushing peachy pink above the island.
