Mauritius flight FAQs

A flight from London Heathrow, London Gatwick and London City airports to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport takes around 12 hours.

The most popular time to visit is during the island’s spring and summer months, so book your flights for autumn or winter to enjoy pleasant weather with greater sunbathing space.

You can make a trip to Mauritius fit any budget. Many of the notable attractions, like Black River Gorges National Park, Ganga Talao and Flic-en-Flac are free to visit. In fact, for nature lovers, state parks and national parks typically offer affordable entry fees and opportunities for hiking. Explore the island's beautiful beaches, like Le Morne Beach and Grand Baie, which are both free to access. For food, visit the busy Port Louis Bazar for fresh produce and delicious bites, or you’ll find plenty of authentic food stalls in the island’s centre as well.

Once you touch down at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, you’re only a 25-minute drive from Mauritius’ centre, and taxis can easily be found outside the airport terminal. The cheapest way to travel is by taking the airport bus, but the route takes significantly longer than a taxi ride would.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what the island has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Mauritius has it all. White sandy beaches, turquoise waters and a reputation for being one of the world’s most romantic destinations.

On the southern tip of the island, Le Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and island. Take a short boat ride from here to Blue Bay Marine Park for an afternoon spent snorkelling and exploring Mauritius' vibrant underwater world.

Book yourself into a Mauritian cookery class – there are plenty to choose from on the island. They’re a great setting for hands-on learning about ingredients and dishes, plus an opportunity to sample authentic curries, dholl puri, and rougaille.
