Overview
Reminiscent of a French chateau, this hotel has a magnificent limestone building, complete with turrets. Situated in the heart of Ottawa, it is located next-door to Canada's parliament building and the UNESCO designated Rideau Canal. During the winter months, it is also near to the world's longest ice rink.
The old world charm and elegance of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier are evident both inside and outside of the hotel. The interiors feature brass stair rails, marble floors, high ceiling and antique furnishings. It dates back to 1912 and has become something of a Canadian institution during its lifetime. Its location close to the parliament building has earned it the name 'The Third Chamber of Parliament' among locals.
The large rooms have a cosy sitting area. The Fairmont View rooms offer outstanding views of the parliament buildings and the Rideau Canal.
The canal paths offer many miles of cycle and in-line skating lanes. The canal itself becomes a skating rink during winter as it freezes over. The nearby Gatineau Hills offer great hiking, biking and canoeing opportunities during summer, as well as cross-country skiing and downhill trails during winter.
