Overview
The luxurious Art Deco Imperial Hotel is set in the heart of Prague's beautiful Old Town. A historically listed monument, its building was built between 1913 and 1914 as a luxury hotel, and while it’s been restored and reimagined for the 21st Century, it still offers a luxury stay to this day. It’s also home to one of Prague’s most famous cafes, Cafe Imperial, as well as amazing original decor and suitably stylish, yet comfortable rooms.
Ideally situated, this hotel is just 200 metres from Republic Square. It’s three quarters of a mile from Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square, where you’ll also find the town hall’s astronomical clock and gothic Church of Our Lady before Tyn. Charles Bridge is a mile’s stroll east and St Vitus Cathedral and Prague Castle are a further mile to the east. Republic Square has a metro station (Namesti Republiky, on line B), so travelling further around the city is easy. Vaclav Havel Airport is nine miles away.
As the hotel’s name suggests, decor pays homage to art deco, with chic patterns and mosaic floor tiles aplenty. The impressive lobby features a grand staircase, statues, granite-topped tables and leather seating. Deluxe rooms, Executive rooms and Junior Suites embrace this theme with a large mahogany headboard, inlaid with copper and royal blue feathered artwork, a black-quartz effect desk with statement gold lamps, and golden crepe curtains. Bathrooms have handy heated no-fog mirrors, as well as bathrobes and slippers. Executive rooms are roomier and grant turn-down service, faster internet access and an espresso machine. Junior Suites enjoy a prime setting at the corner of the building, where large windows look out to the street, towards Municipal House.

Dining information
There’s no greater example of the hotel’s Art Deco style than at Cafe Imperial, where the original mosaic ceiling is lit by globed lights, and intricately carved stone and wood panelling lines the walls. One of the most famous cafe houses in Prague for the past hundred years, this haunt, once frequented by Franz Kafka, now offers an extensive menu of hot and cold drinks, as well as a breakfast, sweet and main menu, created by celebrity chef Zdenek Pohlreich. Check out Czech specials including veal schnitzel and braised beef with creamy sauce, bread dumplings and cranberries. As this is such a popular spot in Prague, it’s recommended that you book well in advance – walk-ins generally aren’t allowed. Set under a gold and stained-glass vaulted ceiling, Prime Bar offers premium spirits, wines, Champagnes, cocktails and snacks.
