Majorca flight FAQs
A flight from London to Palma, the capital of Majorca, takes just under two hours and 30 minutes.
Sunny Majorca is very popular over the summer months, so you’ll often find flights are cheaper from October to April. While the rest of the island is quieter over winter, Palma’s restaurants and hotels largely remain open. To find the cheapest flights to Palma, use our low fare finder.
Palma has a wide variety of restaurants, bars and hotels to suit all budgets, ranging from exclusive five-star boutique hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants to simple, unpretentious establishments off the beaten track. You should expect to pay a little more to drink or dine by the marina, so take a wander inland away from the big tourist hotspots for greater value for money.
Elsewhere on Majorca, you’ll find a broad mix of hotels, restaurants and activities to suit every budget. Go inland for quiet villages with family-run restaurants and guest houses. Try Alcudia or Santa Ponsa for resorts and hotels that cater to all budgets, or visit Port d’Andratx or Puerto Portals for high-end establishments lining the glitzy marinas.
Consider visiting Majorca during the spring or autumn when prices for accommodation are usually cheaper in comparison to the sizzling peak months of July or August.
Once you land at Palma Airport, you’re less than a 20-minute taxi ride into Majorca’s city centre. There are also regular buses from the terminal which take you to the city’s central transport hub, and from there, you’ll find several bus routes as well as train lines to nearby towns and villages. While in Palma, most attractions are easily reached by foot – and the city’s cobbled streets and handsome squares make navigating each neighbourhood a pleasure. There are plenty of cycle lanes around the city, so hire a bike if you’d like to zip around to see it all.
For getting around the island, you can rely on a network of buses and trains to reach the various towns and local hotspots. If you’re heading to Soller from Palma, try out the historic Ferrocarril de Soller service for a scenic ride in a traditional wooden train.
You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Majorca has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.
Visit Majorca for the food, the views and some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean – there are 262 in total, ranging from big family beaches with watersports, to beautiful bays and quiet coves known as calas. Try Playa de Alcudia in the north for a spacious option. As well as being a famous destination for cycling, Majorca is also home to some of Spain’s best golf courses, while Palma offers excellent nightlife with chic restaurants and rooftop bars.
Founded by the Romans in 123 BC, Palma’s rich history has helped shape the city into a visually striking destination. There’s the 14th-century Castell de Bellver on a hillside outside the city and the beautiful townhouses and mansions of the Old Town, like Can Balaguer, a cultural hub with a carefully preserved 17th-century courtyard. The city’s thriving art scene means you’re never too far from a gallery. For a modern perspective, visit the Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art overlooking the marina, home to pieces by Picasso and Barcelo, as well as rising local talent.
When you’re not soaking up the culture or the sunshine, take advantage of all the independent boutiques along Costa d’en Brossa – a winding street in the Old Town where you can pick up artisanal wares, antiques and local foodie specialities.
