If you’re after a beach break that ticks the boxes for both grown-ups and little ones, Iberostar Waves Playa Gaviotas is the perfect pick. Families will love the kids’ clubs, pools and space to play. Meanwhile, couples can opt for a Prestige room and enjoy access to the adult-only areas where things are a touch more serene. While the resort hugs Fuerteventura’s quieter southern shores and seems laid-back, there’s a gentle energy about it. Float between two restaurants and five fabulous bars, sunup to sundown. Plus, the spa, tennis courts, bowling and entertainment on tap keeps you happily busy. The resort’s all-inclusive experience makes life gloriously easy, with all the essentials included.

Set right on the sands at Jandia, this resort is perfectly placed for long, lazy days by the sea. You’ll have direct access to the soft sands and beach hammocks for hire along the shore. Three miles up the coast, Morro Jable is your go-to for sweet strolls, with its lighthouse and beach cafes. Hikers can tackle the trails up Mountain Aguda, just shy of three miles from the resort, or head five miles out to the dramatic ravines of Barranco de Esquinzo. Golfers are just a swing away from the 18, ocean-facing holes of Jandia Golf Course, too. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a day trip to the charming village of Cofete – 25 miles away. Otherwise, the capital, Puerto del Rosario beckons with a bit more bustle, 52 miles from your front door. You’ll find Fuerteventura Airport around 50 miles away.

Rooms here are calm, clean and quietly coastal. Simple and spacious, they have whitewashed walls, sandy-tones floors and soft pops of seafoam green. Each comes with a balcony, plus a little table and chairs, so you can sip your morning coffee in the balmy breeze. If you fancy a few extras, upgrade to a Star Prestige room (16+) and enjoy access to exclusive adult-only areas. Think private sun terrace and pool, a lovely bar and a blissful chill-out zone. There’s also the Coronas Bar, serving late, light breakfasts, as well as sandwiches and rush-free refreshments. In the evenings, head to Sotavento Bar for family-friendly mini-discos and post-bedtime shows – from flamenco to full-on musicals. The Bowling Bar offers all-in-one fun with bowling lanes, pool tables and table football – all topped off with a handy drinks menu. If you’re a Star Prestige guest, you can enjoy the Open Bar in your own exclusive zone. This retreat serves up coffee, cava, sweet treats and savoury plates in style.
