If you are travelling with children, for example, you will be pushed to find a hotel that is more helpful. With the names and ages of your children provided in advance, they will be greeted with plenty of goodies according to age. These could include milk and cookies on arrival, child-sized bathrobes, children's toiletries and alphabet bath sponges. You may also request safety gadgets, pool fencing, strollers, bottles and toys. The kids' club includes a pool, playroom, quiet room and bakery. For teenagers there is table tennis, Xbox and Wii, online computers, a lounge and DJ booth.

It's not just children who are spoilt for choice. For adults there are two 18-hole golf courses, one designed by Ernie Els at Anahita Golf Club and the other is a Bernhard Langer signature course at Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club. There's also an infinity edge, free-form and 28m lap pool, two tennis courts and a fully equipped gym. Classes include spinning, circuit training and aerobics. There is an extensive list of water sports ranging from paddle boarding and scuba diving to glass-bottomed boat excursions.

If all that sounds a little too energetic, lose yourself in the hotel library, lie back on a beachside hammock or head to the spa. The pampering menu is impressive with a wide range of head to toe treatments. The spa features 12 treatment pavilions, set on stilts over the lagoon and a toga pavilion and a choice of wellness classes. Listening to the gentle lapping of the waves, whilst enjoying a massage, is the perfect way to unwind.

Bambou is the main restaurant, just steps from the beach and pool, and is where you can enjoy a daily breakfast. It is also open for lunch and dinner with Mediterranean and Mauritian specialities, regular themed evenings, an array of culinary experiences and live shows on selected nights. For lighter bites at lunch, head to La Plaz at Ile aux Cerfs where you can linger on swinging bar stools over grilled dishes and local beers. Blu’Zil offers light tapas and handcrafted cocktails during the day.

Reserve a table at any of the a la carte restaurants for dinner. Open exclusively for dinner, Upper Cut serves succulent, grilled prime cuts, alongside speciality seafood creations. Dine at Acquapazza for contemporary Italian cuisine, the extensive wine list here offers the perfect pairings. Umi.Zaka offers a fusion of seafood inspired Asian dishes with an island setting for starlit oceanside dining, while Chatkar serves Indian dishes and Lazy Fish offers seafood.

If you're staying on half board you can enjoy breakfast and dinner at Bambou or receive a credit at selected other outlets. The credit is entitled per person per day towards a meal. It must be consumed per night stay and cannot be accumulated or used for other meal periods.
