Midtown attractions are an easy walk and include the Empire State Building, Bryant Park and Fifth Avenue for shopping – so put your trainers on and explore by foot. Book your lift pass and be speedily transported 70 floors up to the observational desk at the Rockefeller Center or head over to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), home to the world's greatest collection of modern and contemporary art. You’ll be inundated with dining options on Restaurant Row – also situated on 46th Street – otherwise, Hell’s Kitchen is a favourite, pre and post theatre. Both JFK International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport are approximately 16 miles away.

As you would expect from a central New York hotel, space is at a premium, so rooms are very compact – even by New York standards. If you're keen to get out and about and simply need a base in the city without the frills, Double rooms are around 11 m2 and make the perfect affordable option. The decor is a little tired in places, and aircon units can be noisy, however the space has been cleverly used and facilities include a 43-inch, high-definition flat-screen TV, pillow top mattress, down comforter and pillows, an in-room safe (laptop compatible), a slim desk and chair and high-speed wireless internet access. All guestrooms have been thoughtfully updated, while bathrooms retain their original compact design and come with a shower, complimentary own-brand toiletries and an ingenious space-saving, cone-shaped sink. If you're wanting a little more space, you can upgrade – the Queen Superior is a cosy 14 m2 and the modest King Deluxe is approximately 20 m2. Although you won't find any in-room tea and coffee making facilities, you won't have to venture far for your caffeine fix, there's a Starbucks just around the corner from the hotel and plenty of cafes a short walk away. Being so close to the hustle and bustle of Times Square, you may hear some traffic and pedestrian noise from your room.
