Sun Siyam Vilu Reef sits on Meedhuffushi Island in the South Nilandhe Atoll. You can hop on a boat to explore the sister island resort, Sun Siyam Iru Veli. Otherwise, book a 20-minute dhoni boat trip to Llohi Island, home to the organic farm where the resort sources its fresh, seasonal produce (excursions available for a supplement charge). Male International Airport is a scenic 35-minute sea plane journey from the hotel.
The spacious villas and suites are situated directly on the beach or lie on stilts above the lagoon. They are decorated in a contemporary Maldivian style, with bright tropical colours and natural materials, such as wood and stone. Most Beach Villas include a luxurious outdoor bathroom, and you can upgrade to a Beach Villa with an outdoor jetted tub. The range of overwater villas includes Sun Aqua Villas with private pools, or Sunset Reef Villas that boast outdoor bathtubs with spectacular sunset views. There are plenty of activities on offer around the island, including an array of water sports. You can hire complimentary snorkelling equipment to explore the incredible house reef, or enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing for up to one hour each day. You can also learn how to windsurf, book banana-boat rides and visit the on-site diving school, which offers a range of dive courses for children, beginners and experienced divers (supplement charges apply).
Additional facilities include an ocean view infinity pool, badminton and tennis courts, a fitness centre and a kids’ club for 4- to 12-year-olds. At the kids’ club, children participate in a range of supervised art and crafts activities or play at the playground and shallow pool outside. Dining information
There are four restaurants on the island. Located near the ocean, The Aqua is the resort’s main restaurant, where you can enjoy a glorious buffet spread each morning. You can return here for lunch and dinner, too, to sample classic international dishes and Maldivian favourites.
Well Done, situated on the beach, is an open-air a la carte restaurant which specialises in fresh fish and seafood dishes, including lobster and catch of the day. Meanwhile, The Spice serves rustic Italian cuisine by day − including homemade pizzas − followed by authentic Indian fare in the evening.
For a more intimate dining experience, book a table at the Wine Cellar, where expert sommeliers pair fine wines with light bites. Alternatively, you can book a romantic sunset dinner on the beach for an additional charge.
There are also two bars on the island, including Positive Energy, which serves tropical shakes, handcrafted cocktails and fruity smoothies by the pool. The Nautilus is the perfect spot for sundowners, as it boasts an outdoor terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean.
