Flights to Thailand

Few destinations offer quite as much variety, adventure, and natural beauty as Thailand. The north of the country is known for its mountains and jungles, while in the south you’ll find palm-lined paradise islands that are perfect for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking. Then there’s Thailand’s beating heart – Bangkok. Known as The Big Mango, it’s one of Southeast Asia’s most popular cities, and the perfect place to begin your trip.

Experience The Land of Smiles

Fly to Thailand with British Airways and start your visit with a tour of one of Bangkok’s 400 ornate Buddhist temples. Make sure you sample the famous street food and bag a bargain at the sprawling Chatuchak Weekend Market.

Zip between the sights in a tuk-tuk or wind your way through the skyscrapers on the city’s Skytrain before ending your day in one of Bangkok’s rooftop bars. Head south to unwind on the beaches of Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, known as The Pearl of the Andaman. Or make your way to the tropical paradise of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, stopping off at the Khao Sok National Park on the way – a rainforest that’s older than the Amazon.

Whether you choose economy or business class flights, travel in comfort when you book your holiday to Thailand with us.

Thailand flight FAQs

A flight from London to Suvarnabhumi Airport takes approximately 11 hours and 25 minutes.

British Airways flies direct to Bangkok from London Gatwick Airport.

If you’re on a budget, the best time to visit Thailand is between May and October. This is Thailand’s rainy season, and while you’ll experience short downpours, days are still warm and sunny with temperatures reaching above 30°C.

May to July is a good time of year to visit the beach resorts on the Andaman Sea, as well as popular destinations like Chiang Mai and Khao Sok. You’ll find prices are more affordable at this time of year compared with the dry season.

The dry season in Thailand runs between November and April, with good weather guaranteed.

Each year in mid-April the country also celebrates Songkran, the Thai New Year, which is marked with a three-day festival. Expect lots of dancing, street parties and a nationwide water fight.

On the night of November’s full moon, Thailand celebrates Loy Krathong, or the ‘Festival of Lights’. The event marks the end of the rainy season, and locals and holidaymakers come together to make lanterns and put candles on makeshift river rafts.

Thailand is a favourite with backpackers for a reason. It’s easy to travel around the country on a shoestring. There are plenty of accommodation options available, with even some high-end hotels offering very affordable prices. You can cut the cost of transport and accommodation even further by taking a slow overnight train or overnight bus. They’re usually cheaper than hiring minivans or taking internal flights.

Each evening, Bangkok’s street corners and car parks come alive with vendors selling some of the city’s best food. It’s a great way to enjoy local cuisine for less. And, while the most popular Buddhist temples charge entry fees, including Wat Pho in Bangkok, you can always choose to see some of the smaller monasteries instead, which are often free to visit.

Bangkok Airport is located about 30km from the city centre, and the Airport Rail Link (ARL) is the quickest and easiest way to make the journey. It takes around 25 minutes.

Bangkok is the only Thai city with an urban rail system, and both The Metro and Skytrain are convenient, reliable and affordable ways to move around.

Thailand itself is also extremely well-connected, and flying is often the fastest way to get around the country and reach major tourist destinations including Chiang Mai, Ko Samui, Phuket, and Krabi.

Buses and minivans also offer cheap travel, along with the country’s rail network, which has four main long-distance lines – Northern, Northeastern, Eastern and Southern.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Thailand has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Beyond Koh Samui and Phuket, Thailand has over 1400 islands to explore, all offering their own unique character. The city of Chiang Mai is the cultural capital of Thailand’s mountainous north and offers something completely different from the country’s biggest cities, including jungle trekking and white-water rafting along the Mae Tang River. Book yourself into a Thai cookery class and spend an afternoon at the Chiang Mai Grand Canyon. Head back to Bangkok for a restorative massage, followed by diving into the city’s buzzing nightlife scene and sample a local specialty – spicy tom yum soup with lashings of lemongrass, galangal and lime.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders may require a visa to visit Thailand, depending on how long they stay. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to on our visa information page.
