Pearl of the Arabian Peninsula

Fly to Qatar with British Airways and hunt for treasures in the winding alleyways of Doha’s Souq Waqif, where you’ll find traditional garments, jewellery, rugs and fragrances.

Then seek out luqaimat – sweet dumplings flavoured with date syrup – at the street-food stalls and watch the parades and public performances. Take a desert safari two hours south of the city to the UNESCO-listed Inland Sea, a tidal inlet that becomes a lagoon during the day and a desert at night.

Drive north for another kind of adventure – alongside seeing the Neolithic rock carvings of Al Jassaisiya, you can pitch up for the night in the wilderness. Pack your own tent and choose a quiet spot for a stargazing, or opt for some glamping with air-conditioned accommodation and gourmet meals served next to a campfire. Book your holiday to Qatar now.

Qatar flight FAQs

A flight from London to Doha’s Hamad International Airport takes approximately six hours and 45 minutes.

British Airways flies direct to Doha from both London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports.

The cheapest time to fly to Qatar is usually over the summer months. However, June, July and August all see extreme heat and humidity, with temperatures often rising above 40°C. The months of May and September will be slightly cooler and offer the possibility of finding cheaper flights than during the peak season. Use our low fare finder to find the cheapest month to visit Qatar.

The best time to visit Qatar is between October and April, when you’ll experience cooler temperatures. If you decide to travel during the month of Ramadan, you’ll find that many restaurants are closed during the day.

Qatar offers some of the most luxurious hotels in the Middle East, without too many budget options on offer. The best place to seek out mid-range accommodation is around the Souq Waqif.

Happy hour in hotel bars and restaurants – the only places where visitors can buy alcohol in Qatar – usually takes place between 5pm and 8pm daily. Tap water is safe to drink in Qatar, so take a reusable drink bottle to fill up at your hotel.

Keep an eye on the cultural calendar for international events such as the Qatar Grand Prix, which can have an impact on hotel prices.

The high-speed Doha Metro offers a fast and frequent service from the airport to all parts of the city, with journeys taking about an hour.

Once you arrive, it’s easy to get around Doha and visit the city’s major attractions. The Metro and the Lusail Tram are both cheap, and the free Metrolink bus picks up passengers within a few miles of metro stations. You can also join a free ride share on the seven-seater metroexpress buses, hired via the Karwa taxi app.

The Karwa bus service connects Doha to all of Qatar’s major towns, while taxis operate widely across the country. Hire a bicycle to zip around Doha, or cycle the length of the 33km-long Olympic Cycling Track – the world’s longest continuous cycle path.

The Doha Bus offers a range of hop-on hop-off sightseeing tours visiting popular sights like Souq Waqif, the National Museum of Qatar and Katara Cultural Village.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Qatar has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Doha is the gateway to some extraordinary natural wonders. Just 40 minutes north of the city lies the Al Thakira wetland where visitors can kayak through the mangrove forests. It’s an ideal spot to catch a glimpse of flamingos in winter. For a unique view of the two sides of Doha, float up in a hot air balloon and look down on the metropolis springing up from the desert. Touchdown and take a casual stroll along The Corniche, the capital’s palm-fringed boulevard. It’s the perfect place to snap a selfie in front of the city’s futuristic skyline. Float down the canals of the Qanat Quartier, a Venetian-themed neighbourhood on a man-made island with a replica Rialto Bridge. The Museum of Islamic Art is also home to the world’s largest collection of Islamic artwork.
